Cascade GIS was contracted by the Columbia Soil & Water Conservation District to provide archaeological services for the NRCS-managed Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) program. Working with the District, the NRCS, the landowner, and the SHPO, Cascade GIS was able to complete the field survey and reporting in a short time-frame to meet the brief work window for the EWP’s required geotechnical work. The project was in response to a landslide that threatened a residence and a waterway.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) administers the EWP Program, which responds to emergencies created by natural disasters. The program is designed to help people and conserve natural resources by relieving imminent hazards to life and property caused by floods, fires, windstorms, and other natural occurrences.
